Michael Ly, CEO of Reconciled, has modernized his business in other ways, too. While he maintains an HQ in Vermont, the rest of his team is distributed. But Michael and his HR & Recruiting Coordinator, Stephanie Stewart, realized that the way they were managing their team was still pretty antiquated. Reconciled was using a third-party provider for payroll, along with a confusing set of folders, spreadsheets, and Slack channels to manage their benefits and HR administration.
“It just became very manual and tedious,” Michael said. “We knew if we wanted to scale and grow our practice, we couldn’t operate that way anymore. That’s where Justworks came into play.”

“When we have a new hire, it’s super nice to be able to send them the Justworks invite and then they take it from there,” Stephanie said. “When you have a spread out workforce, it’s really easy to just say, ‘Here’s where you go, and here’s where the majority of the information is that you’re going to need.’”

In addition to the central platform for onboarding and managing employees, Justworks also provided Reconciled with a new way to access benefits. Prior to switching, the company was offering a Vermont-based health insurance plan that wasn’t great for employees in other states. Through Justworks, Michael has been able to offer a plans with national coverage.
“We’ve been able to give our employees access to a richer benefit offering because of the switch,” Michael said. “Not only were we able to offer something nationwide, we were able to offer access to additional benefits on top of that because of the cost savings that Justworks provided through that plan.”
Michael also found that when it came to offering access to additional benefits like 401(k), Justworks took a lot of the guesswork out of the process. As a growing startup, it wasn’t easy to know what benefits to offer, and it took a lot of research.
“I thought, man, I don’t want to spend all that time doing this research and realize I chose the wrong thing,” he said. “With Justworks, it’s all centralized and all integrated, so that was super, super helpful.”
