2021 Employee Retention Tax Credit Relief updates

On December 27, 2020, Congress signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, revamping several COVID-19 relief programs. This week we launched updates in Justworks to the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) in accordance with the new legislation.

What’s changed with ERTC?

  • Congress changed the ERTC program for 2021 by increasing the potential credit amounts and extending the program through June 30, 2021.

  • There are also more lenient eligibility criteria for 2021, and the PPP loan program is no longer a barrier to participating in ERTC outright. However, employers cannot apply the same wages for PPP loan forgiveness and ERTC.

For information on eligibility and how to access the tax credit in Justworks, check out our Help article here.

Xero accounting integration updates

We’ve updated our accounting integration with Xero to remove the need to re-authenticate every 30 minutes! If you’re using the Xero accounting integration, re-authenticate once, and you’ll be all set to go. You will not need to re-map your accounts and can stay connected moving forward.

Also, check Justworks out on the Xero app store, and while you’re there, we’d love for you to leave us a review!

Update to weekly view in Timecards

It’s a best practice to record the hours your employees worked on a daily basis. This ensures that applicable pay requirements, such as state overtime laws, can be calculated accurately. That’s why we’ve updated our Timecards to only support the Daily view and have removed the Weekly view. Please note that you can still use the Import Hours tool if you’d like to use the Weekly view of Timecards, however, you will need to calculate overtime manually.

As always, we’re here 24/7 if you have any questions.
