Social Security

Employers must contribute to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), a mandatory retirement savings program. Under Kenya's current structure employee contribute 6% of gross monthly pay, and employers contribute 6% of an employee’s gross monthly pay.

Mandatory Health Insurance

Employers are also required to register employees under the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) for healthcare access, with contributions based on salary bands.

Time Off

Employees in Kenya are entitled to 21 days of paid annual leave after one year of service. Kenyan employees also receive 14 days of paid annual sick leave after two months of continuous employment.

Parental Leave

Employers are required to offer pregnant employees three months of fully paid maternity leave. New fathers receive up to two weeks of paid paternity leave.

While NHIF covers basic healthcare, many companies in Kenya offer private medical insurance for additional coverage with better hospital care and access to specialists.

In urban centers like Nairobi and Mombasa, employers often offer lunch stipends, commuter allowances, or shuttle services to help employees manage daily logistics.

Upskilling support is increasingly common. Many employers provide exam leave, training budgets, or tuition support, especially in sectors like IT, finance, and law.
