Options for Hiring in Pakistan

Hiring Practices
Employment contracts in Pakistan must be provided in writing at the time of appointment, transfer, or promotion. The contract must clearly outline the terms and conditions of employment.
Fixed-Term Contracts
Fixed-term arrangements should be used carefully and in line with applicable labor rules. Employers should ensure the contract type matches the actual nature of the work.
Background Checks
Background checks are permitted in Pakistan but are regulated. Criminal record checks are only allowed for specific roles. Medical examinations are permitted only when required by law or necessary to protect life or health. Employers must follow data protection requirements when collecting personal information.
Probation Periods
There are no such restrictions, however, the general practice is to have a minimum probation period of one month and maximum three months. The maximum three months probation period is derived from Shops and Establishment Ordinance, 1969. In the aforementioned law while defining a permanent employee, among other things, it has been mentioned that a permanent employee is one who has satisfactorily completed a probation period of three months.
