How an EOR Can Help with Employee Leave & PTO

Lithuania's employment laws set clear standards for annual leave, public holidays, and family-related leave. These requirements are mandatory.

Justworks helps you manage statutory leave through our EOR service, ensuring employees receive the required time off per local labor laws.

Employee Leave & PTO Expectations in Lithuania

Lithuania provides structured leave protections based on employee status. Employers must track leave accrual accurately and apply statutory rules consistently.

Vacation Leave

Full-time employees in Lithuania are entitled to a minimum of 20 working days of paid annual leave per year, which accrues from their first day of employment. Extended entitlements of 25 working days apply to certain groups, such as employees under 18, single parents, and employees with a disability. Long-service employees earn additional days, and leave is paid at the employee's average wage.

Sick Leave

Employees are entitled to paid sick leave when unable to work due to illness or injury. The employer pays the first two calendar days of each period of sickness at a rate between 62.06% and 100% of average wage. From the third day, Sodra, Lithuania's Social Insurance Fund, pays a benefit at 62.06% of compensated earnings. Sick pay is based on an electronic certificate of incapacity for work issued by the doctor.

Parental/Maternity Leave

Lithuania provides pregnancy and parental leave benefits, all paid by Sodra. Mothers are entitled to 126 calendar days of maternity leave (70 before and 56 after birth). This leave can be extended to 140 days for a complicated or multiple births, paid at 77.58% of compensated earnings. Fathers receive 30 calendar days of paternity leave. Either parent can then take childcare leave until the child turns three, while a Sodra benefit covers part of that period.

Other Types of Leave

Lithuania also recognizes additional leave rights, including at least three calendar days of paid marriage leave, up to five calendar days of bereavement leave, additional paid rest days for parents of young children, and unpaid carer's and study leave. Employers must apply these rights in accordance with statutory rules.

Public Holidays in Lithuania
